5 things you should know about anxiety

“

Anxiety problems are solvable but they need counter-intuitive solutions. Our brain has prebuilt patterns dealing with anxiety. Often we follow natural, prebuilt patterns that keep us stuck in anxiety problems. For example, you may suffer from health anxiety and fear dying of heart attack. Your brain might tell you that in order to relieve your anxiety you should Google your symptoms. Just to make sure your okay. What practice shows, googling symptoms actually makes anxiety even worse and raises your concern, panic. Brain natural path of solving anxiety is engaging in goggling but a counter-intuitive solution should be completely avoiding googling behavior.

Anxiety problems are more common than you think. 1 in 5 adults suffer from anxiety disorder. Some people don't even realize they have anxiety so they suffer silently. They may reach out to a family doctor and complain about minor symptoms such as racing heart, headaches, troubles sleeping, muscle pain, etc. Usually they are sent for additional testing like blood tests, electrocardiogram, magnetic resonance but medically nothing wrong can be found.

Often anxiety problems start at early childhood, teenage years. They can be hard to diagnose early because most of them happen deep inside us and aren't noticeable to others. If you grew up in a family environment where it wasn't acceptable to talk about your emotional problems then you are at higher risk of neglecting your mental health and developing anxiety disorder.

It's important to reach for anxiety treatment as soon as you notice first symptoms of anxiety. Generally anxiety responds well to the treatment and it should be stopped early in its tracks. People often reach out fairly late for the anxiety treatment when anxiety symptoms have a significant effect on life quality.

There is nothing wrong with reaching out for psychological help. Often people feel ashamed reaching out for psychological help because others might perceive them as weak or crazy. This preconception often keeps people away from receiving appropriate treatment and getting better. Reaching out for psychological help should be viewed as a sign of strength not weakness.
